Smooth upgrade, good price

I've used Seatfrog a few times now for Avanti West Coast upgrades, and it's been consistently good. This last one, for a trip from Manchester to London, I nabbed a 'Buy it Now' First Class upgrade for about 60% less than if I'd bought it direct. The app is straightforward; you just tap a few times to confirm. The digital rail ticket for the upgrade appeared quickly in the app. I once had a question about when auctions opened, and customer service responded within an hour via email. The only minor thing is sometimes the auctions open a bit late, so you have to keep an eye on it. But overall, it makes traveling a lot more comfortable for a decent price.

Easy upgrade experience

I used Seatfrog for an LNER upgrade last month. It was pretty easy, just bid for it on my phone during the journey. Got First Class for a good price. Took a few taps, no fuss. Happy with it.

Reliable for GWR upgrades

I'm a regular Seatfrog user, mostly for Great Western Railway upgrades. This time, I went for a weekend first class upgrade from Bristol to Paddington. The process was just as smooth as my previous experiences. I put in a bid a few hours before departure, and it went through without a hitch. The consistency is what keeps me coming back; I know what to expect. Compared to my first upgrade a year ago, the app feels a bit snappier now. It's really convenient to just have the digital ticket on my phone. They've always delivered on time and the upgrades are always valid. Definitely my go-to for making train travel a bit nicer without breaking the bank.

Does Seatfrog work for all train lines in the UK? Like, what about smaller ones or only the big intercity routes?

J June Q. 2 months ago
It's mainly for the big ones, yeah. LNER, Avanti, GWR, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express, Grand Central, EMR. Not every single tiny local line will be on there. Check their app, it'll tell you if your route is eligible.

Nah, not all of them. It's focused on the main operators that have a dedicated First Class carriage. So no, not literally 'all' train lines.

my train got cancelled after i won an upgrade, what happens then? do i just lose my upgrade money?

D Daisy Ito 1 month ago
Nah, if your train gets cancelled, you should get a refund for the upgrade. It's usually automatic, but if not, contact their support. Happened to me once and the refund came through.

M Marcus 1 month ago
Yeah, if they cancel the train, the upgrade is null and void and you get your money back. Don't worry about it.

Is Seatfrog legit? Like, are these upgrades real first class tickets or is it some kind of scam? Never used it before.

N Noor 2 months ago
Totally legit. It's used by actual train companies like LNER and Avanti to fill empty seats. You get a proper first class ticket or a digital pass that the conductor scans. No scam.

Nah it's fine. Been using it for ages. It's just a way for them to sell off last-minute seats that would otherwise go empty, so you benefit. Just make sure your original ticket is valid for the journey.

Can you use more than one discount code on Seatfrog? Like if I have a referral code and maybe some other special offer?

T Tara M. 2 months ago
AFAIK, you can't stack discounts. It's usually one code per purchase. So if you have a referral, that's what you use for that upgrade.

Pretty sure it's one or the other. Most places don't let you combine codes.

Hey guys, thinking of using Seatfrog for a trip from London to Manchester. How does the upgrade auction actually work? Is it really cheaper than just buying first class from Avanti directly?

C Cody 2 months ago
Yeah, it can be. I've snagged some good deals. The auction opens a bit before your train, like 2-3 days out, and you just bid against other people. If you win, you get a digital first-class ticket. Definitely saved me money a few times compared to the full price.

It's usually cheaper for sure. Avanti's direct first class can be brutal. Just watch the auction close time, it can get competitive right at the end.

Just wondering about the whole referral code thing. How do I actually get that 5 quid off for signing up? Is there a box when I'm bidding or what?

M Marcus Foster 1 month ago
You enter it in the app, yeah. I think it's usually during the checkout process for your first upgrade, or sometimes in your profile settings before you even bid. Just keep an eye out for a 'promo code' or 'referral code' field.

It's definitely in the app, not on the website. I got my fiver off my first upgrade by putting it in before the final payment step.

Thinking of upgrading on a GWR train this weekend. What's the latest you can bid for an upgrade? Like, can I do it an hour before departure?

K Kevin 1 month ago
Auctions usually close closer to the departure time, but you probably can't bid just an hour before. They usually open a few days out and close maybe a few hours before. Always check the app for your specific journey.

M Megan T. 1 month ago
It varies, but usually it's not super last minute. I've seen them close like 4-6 hours before. Definitely not an hour before, I don't think.

Anyone know if you can use a railcard with Seatfrog upgrades? I have a 26-30 one and want to make sure it'll still apply to the first class bit.

J Jared Bennett 2 months ago
From what I remember, your railcard discount applies to your original standard ticket, but not the upgrade itself. The upgrade price is what it is, no extra railcard discount on that part.
2
P Phil 2 months ago
That's right, the upgrade cost is separate. Think of it as paying extra to jump cabins, your original ticket is still valid with the railcard applied to that fare.
